Maturity as a Wow-Field?

There’s some news that Seth Godin’s Squidoo took a hit with Google because of marketers using black hat search engine optimization to “inappropriately” acquire better organic search engine listings.

[Sidebar: According to Wikipedia, "Another class of techniques, known as "Black hat" SEO or spamdexing, use methods such as link farms and keyword stuffing that tend to harm search engine user experience. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques and may remove their listings..

Such techniques are frowned upon here at NewbieReports.com. Not because I have anything against strategic moves to make a buck, but because I value information integrity with a passion and don't much like people parasitically adding noise into the channel so that they can make that buck. Earning money should be a bargain, and I am not party to any bargain that says, "Here - let me add noise to your information channels." Such practices create Groan-Fields. 'Nuf said...]

Now, over the years, I’ve watched many a marketer complain when they get hit by a loss in their Google rankings. And sure, it’s a major source of grief if you’ve been depending on them for your bread and butter (and steak and Beemer). But there’s a big difference in some of what I’ve seen and Seth Godin’s response as reported here.

“There’s no question that with Google’s last shift in their algorithms and ranks we lost traffic,” said Godin. “[But] it’s very easy to get superstitious about why organizations do one thing or another. Our expectation is that as our lenses get better, and our site gets traffic, our Google rankings will get back to where they were. It’s overly optimistic to think it’s going to happen in a week though.” [emphasis added]

Here’s a guy who’s got thousands, if not tens of thousands of people in his revenue stream, looking to Squidoo for information and ways to make a buck. That’s gotta be a bit of pressure. Yet look at how he responds.

This is one guy that I’ve respected for years, and he lives up to my anticipation here.. I’ve long felt that the guy, in a way, could be said to be a Wow-Field – he repeatedly amazes people the world over. Kudos to Seth Godin. Truly appreciated here at NewbieReports.com
