Results or Luck

What will you rely on to make your way in the world?

Most folks I know use their language without thinking much about it.

“Have a good one.”
“How ya doin?”
“What’s new?”

I found myself saying to a friend, “Good luck.”

But I don’t really believe that “luck” as we usually consider it exists in this world. Most of us think of luck as something “bestowed” upon us by —- something, be it God, Fate or even Lady Luck.

In my view, however, “luck” refers to our inability to see all the relevant and salient factors surrounding our efforts, while hoping that even if we behave passively, that good results will come our way.

What we’re really after is good results while doing nothing to bring said results about.

Something for nothing?

This makes no sense to me. You can wish for something all day long. You can hope for happy results. But the only reliable way you’re going to even come close is by working plans that bring you ever closer to your goals.

So I try my best to never tell someone, “Good luck.”

Instead I say, “Best results,” because there’s at least the intimation of engagement in saying it that way.

So I don’t wish you, my dear reader, good luck at all.

I do, however, wish for you the best results possible.
