On Copyrighted Content

As I created my last entry I played with the idea of including a video posted on YouTube, which enables you to embed the videos on your own web site, such as my blog.

I really do like the idea of embedding content like that. However, with respect to the videos from TED, it is very clear to me that the videos from TED Talks are not YouTube’s property, but are instead of property of TED.

I’m not commenting on YouTube, but I am quite confident, though I have not asked, that TED would probably not grant me permission to embed a YouTube video of their content on my website. And rather than go slow, and wait for such permission, I think I’ll avoid the entire issue by pointing to various videos instead of embedding them on my site, whether from YouTube and or any other source.

Should I happen to gain permission directly from an owner, that’s different, and you may see such videos posted here.

I hope you understand. I intend to create this blog following the golden rule as best I can. I would not want someone displaying my information without my permission, whether express or implied. How can I do that to someone else?
